You think I’m kidding.
The pile of dog poo was so large that I never felt the concrete beneath it when my sandal landed in it.
It was so large that my shoe slid, and I nearly lost my footing.
It was so large that it was absolutely impossible not to see it unless you’re me, and you’re having such a great time with your family that you forget to watch where you’re going.
While my husband took pictures (of me and my dog poo) and my sister-in-law and brother-in-law made respectable attempts not to laugh at me, I gained a very new and very unromantic appreciation for Venice’s beautiful canals. How else was I going to get the dog poo off of my sandal?
If you ask me in ten years, I might not remember what I ate that weekend in Venice, but you know what? That pile of poo was so large that it’ll always make our once-in-a-lifetime trip to Venice stand out a little more vividly in my mind.
Some of the best travel moments aren’t the ones that go smoothly, but are the unplanned ones.
My philosophy? Embrace those unexpectedly sticky (and sometimes smelly) moments. They just add to the adventure. 🙂
