Moving Away Playlist

I love music.

I’m moving away.

I’ll have 15+ hours in a U-Haul to listen to music while my loyal sidekick (Rosie) sleeps beside me.

I need music for the drive.

This is where you can help.

Leave me a comment with the song or songs that you think I need to have on my playlist for driving across Kansas, starting a new step in my career, leaving family (again), chasing my dreams, facing my fears, and embracing new opportunities.

I’m  sad about leaving ‘home’, excited about my next steps, and nervous about so many changes in my life. Help me build an incredible playlist to capture these moments, these feels, these fears and these dreams.

The tears are welling up as a write this. Make a small town girl smile and leave a comment with a song, will you?

  1. Life is a Highway and Highway to Hell are musts, eh? But if you’re feeling nostalgic, check this out:

Chin up! You’ll be great. 🙂

  2. It might not help with the tears welling up, but a perfect song for the occasion is Missouri’s Movin’ On. They are from Kansas City, but were a cult classic in St. Louis back when I lived there. You can find it on youtube at

There’s also a great band called Mama’s Pride. Had a local hit called Blue Mist. Still a favorite of mine, all these years later.

Michael Stanley Band – Let’s Get the Show on the Road. and Midwest Midnight

Any “leaving Missouri” road trip has to have some Head East. For this occasion, Open Up the Door from their self-titled album.

Enjoy your new home. Colorado Springs is a wonderful place.

  3. Steve Earle – Colorado Girl
Deadmau5 – Sofi Needs a Ladder (This is for when you get tired in Kansas)
    Against Me! – Thrash Unreal
Dum Dum Girls – Coming Down
Portugal. The Man new album! In The Mountain In The Cloud
Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks (meh, it’s ok)
Ben Harper – I Will Not Be Broken
Beastie Boys ft. Santigold – Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win

That’s all I got right now. Go West.

  4. Home by Michael Buble comes to mind first.
Save Tonight by Eagle Eye-Cherry is my favorite driving through the night songs.
You Can Sleep While I Drive by Melissa Etheridge. Just don’t do this, Rosie can’t drive yet.
All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye by John Mayer – okay, that one is really depressing
Brand New Day by Joshua Radin – finally something uplifting
A New Day Has Come by Celine Dion – same vein as the last one

  5. When I was leaving college, Miley Cyrus ‘The Climb’ was my guily pleasure. I was entering the real world, and even though things weren’t perfect, life was good. Plus, it is good to belt out in the car. Oh, and it fetaures a lot of mountain references and you’re moving to CO. BAM.

Also, Ben Folds Philosophy is always a car favorite.
