Before I found out I was pregnant with Small Shaw, before we moved to Germany, and before I met my husband, I adopted this little rescue pup from a shelter in rural Missouri.
Rosie the dog has been through a lot of transitions with Nick and I, and we knew that welcoming a new baby would be her biggest transition yet. Anticipating that I’d be spending a whole lot of time in Small Shaw’s nursery, I wanted to make sure Rosie had a “spot” (we often tell her to go to “Rosie’s Spot” when we’re cooking, or when we’re having dinner) in the baby’s room.
Using scrap fabric from a quilt my mom made for Small Shaw, I made a coordinating dog bed for Rosie. Call me silly if you want to — that’s totally okay. I love my dog, I love my family, and I had the time and the materials on hand to experiment with. This project, along with the DIY Ruffled Crib Skirt project, were my two most challenging sewing projects to date, and I had a lot of fun working on both.
Without further adieu, here’s my 18-step tutorial on how to make your own DIY Dog Bed (for Baby’s Nursery):
