I tried something completely new last Wednesday: I rode my bike to work.
The 19th annual Metro Rides Bike to Work Day in Colorado Springs was originally scheduled for the summer, but the Waldo Canyon Fires forced it to be postponed. In a cruel twist of fate, the rescheduled Bike to Work Day fell on one of the only truly rainy days we’ve had all summer.
A handful of dedicated cyclists (myself and my coworker, Mark, included) made our way downtown for one of three free breakfasts for Bike to Work Day riders. (The other two breakfasts were at Salsa Brava restaurants in Rockrimmon and Briargate).
Though I was wet and cold when we arrived downtown, the experience was actually pretty great. It’s always fun to try something new, and Bike to Work Day gave me an excuse to experiment with bike commuting. I admit that even with the cold, wet weather, I’m excited to try to work bike commuting into my routine.
Thanks to Metro Rides for organizing a great event, and for the other riders who came out despite the weather.
