If I’m walking down the street, and I see a chocolate shop, I’m going in. After lunch in Montpelier, Vermont this summer, we passed The Cocoa Bean of Vermont, and I headed inside (for the record, I heard no argument from Nick, my parents, or Small Shaw).
The Cocoa Bean is a small, boutique chocolatier. They make their chocolates and truffles in small, fresh batches each day, and they use local ingredients like Vermont cream, butter, jams, and honeys, wherever they can. If your mouth isn’t watering yet, let me just tell you that they do this by hand.
God, I love chocolate.
Also? I really enjoy beer. So when I saw a dark chocolate beer truffle, I bought one for myself.
That Dark Chocolate Beer Truffle at The Cocoa Bean in Montpelier made my day. Not that the Mexican food fix at lunch wasn’t awesome, too (if anyone wants a retirement project, move to a military town in Germany and open up a killer Mexican restaurant), but the chocolate was so. good.
My mouth is watering as a write this post. I mean, truly, check out this write-up from the shop’s website:
“You will enjoy truffle flavors including red raspberry, mocha java, honey & cognac, classic chocolate, or the more unusual flavors of maple cayenne. Customer favorites include sea salted caramels, peanut butter cups, pecan and cashew turtles, chocolate covered graham crackers, oreos, and fig newtons, barks of java, cranberry, sea salted pistachio, and wasabi pea bark.”
Yes, please. Yes, yes, and more yes. If I lived in Montpelier, I’d walk to the Cocoa Bean every few days just to try another one of their delectable chocolates.
If you want to check out the Cocoa Bean of Vermont, I’m sure they’d welcome your business. And if you’re visiting the area for Norwich Residency Week, this would make a fun little shop to pick up gifts for friends and family back home.
You can find The Cocoa Bean of Vermont at:

They’re also online.
And just because I love the adorable little orange sandal showing in the bottom lefthand corner of this picture, here’s another one of me, Small Shaw, the Cocoa Bean, and my fantastic dark chocolate beer truffle. Mmm…
