Hey, hey! It’s Friday, and I’m 23 weeks pregnant!

As I write this, I’m feeling little tiny baby boy kicks and wiggles deep inside my belly, and I’m excited to have Christmas at home this year with my husband, our bump, and Small Shaw. Our little tree is dwarfed by the presents beneath it, and I’m feeling mighty excited about watching our toddling ginger unwrap all of the books, music, games, and toys that are waiting for her.

23 Week Life Updates

I can’t believe we’re already 23 weeks into this pregnancy! I’ve not worked out as hard or as often this week as I would have liked, but life kind of interrupted a little bit.

We’ve been waiting on two pieces of information to be sent our way from the military about Nick’s next duty station. On Wednesday, we received the second piece (we received the first a few weeks ago). Armed with that new information, we spent a lot of time this week talking about and researching our two options. About two hours after our normal bedtime last night, we made our big decision about what comes next.

You’ll have to wait until another day to find out what we decided, though, because today is all about the bump!

23 Week Bump Updates

At 23 weeks along, I’ve gained just about the right amount of weight (according to the pregnancy weight gain recommendations/charts/calculators). The thing I’m most excited about, though, is that I’ve maintained a lot of muscle tone so far in my arms and legs.

It’s so much easier to manage the added weight around my middle (and the balance issues that come along with a new center of gravity) when my legs still feel so strong and stable. I’m still be able to do a lot of things I did before pregnancy now that I’m more than halfway through this pregnancy, and I credit regular exercise for it.

I’ve been wearing my FittaMamma pregnancy workout clothes a lot this pregnancy, both for workouts and as comfy casual wear. Their tops, capris, and leggings have been getting me through HIIT workouts, gym workouts, and yoga classes, as well as a few grocery runs and long walks with the dog.

There’s only one thing I don’t like about this particular top: it’s so supportive and elastic that it’s kind of hard to get on and off. In a way, it’s sort of like having a sports bra on over your whole upper body: It gives incredible reinforcement, but it’s just kind of tough to pull my arms through. Once it’s on, though, this shirt is pretty rockin’. If you’re looking for a great top to wear for higher-impact workouts during your pregnancy, I think you’d like this one.

  5. One tip for pregnant moms who are either traveling is: Avoid travelling in the first trimester but if you do, don’t plan on being too far from a good doctor or hospital just in case complications arise. It’s not worth the risk.

    • Thanks for the comment, Linnie! I’ve always looked at travel almost the opposite: that I should travel as much as I can in the first five or six months, since I’ll get so much more uncomfortable as my belly gets bigger. No matter when you travel, it’s wise advice to have emergency phone numbers and nearby hospitals’ contact information handy just in case. You don’t want to take any chances.

    • That’s a great tip! I can’t tell you how often my blood sugar crashed during my first pregnancy. I always carried snacks in my purse.
